HL7 announces plans for freely available IP and future membership model Health Level Seven Interna onal (HL7) an- nounced details about its plan to make much of its intellectual property (IP) freely available under licensing terms. The landmark decision represents HL7’s commitment to the be erment of healthcare worldwide by ensuring that all stakeholders have equal access to its HIT standards. The new policy is eff ec ve April 1, 2013, and includes all currently published standards, implementa on guides and other select IP as determined on a case-by-case basis.

HIMSS13 Pediatric Associates, Bellevue, Wash., demonstrated the integrated Blue Button capabilities of Greenway’s PrimePA- TIENT secure Web portal. The demonstration occurred as part of the HIMSS Interoperability Showcase at the invitation of the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC). Blue Button, originally developed by the U.S. Dept. of Veterans Affairs, has become a universal symbol for the advancement of consumer healthcare data access and engagement, enabling consumers to easily access their health data on demand and become more actively engaged in their own health management.
