HL7 announces plans for freely available IP and future membership model
Health Level Seven International (HL7) announced details about its plan to make much of its intellectual property (IP) freely available under licensing terms. The landmark decision represents HL7’s commitment to the betterment of healthcare worldwide by ensuring that all stakeholders have equal access to its HIT standards. The new policy is effective April 1, 2013, and includes all currently published standards, implementation guides and other select IP as determined on a case-by-case basis.

Electronic Health Record Association supports bipartisan policy committee report on patient safety
The HIMSS Electronic Health Record Association (EHR Association), a collaboration of 40 EHR supplier companies, has announced its support of the just-released Bipartisan Policy Committee’s (BPC) report, “An Oversight Framework for Assuring Patient Safety in Health Information Technology.”
